I have written a new novel (actually my first novel!) I am interested in how readers will respond, both to the style of writing and to the book’s message. For a limited time, I am making the book available to my friends for market research. If you would like to help me by reading the book, I would like for you to complete a 20 question survey when you have finished. The survey is online and does not retain your name. I would appreciate any feedback you are willing to share with me. If you chose not to finish the book, I would still like for you to take the survey. If you agree to provide me with feedback on the book, please send me an email that you are interested in reading the book. I will send you the userid and password to open the files and a link for the survey. You may recommend the book to your friends, during this trial period. Please have them send me an email requesting permission. This novel is still a draft. I have corrected the obvious errors, but I know there is room for improvement. Please remember, since this is a work in progress, no permission has been obtained to use any of the references.
While this book would be categorized as Christian Contemporary Fiction, it is a story of how these characters react to the circumstances in their lives. The story happens at a time when most Americans believe, unless they are experiencing job layoffs, foreclosures or bankruptcies, they are living in a period of great abundance and prosperity. Based on those beliefs, the first term incumbent, President Steve Phillips is maintaining a higher approval rating than Ronald Regan. Actually, President Phillips rating was consistently rising. Super Tuesday is the first Tuesday in February when 24 states hold a Presidential primary. This year, Super Tuesday requires the characters in the story to face the following questions. How do you opposing a popular Presidential candidate? What issues can be raised when the people are content with the status quo? Where do you go when you hit the end of your knowledge and experience? Underlying these questions and circumstances are too fundamental questions which the characters can only answer from their hearts. Are there responsibilities that come with abundance and prosperity? Is compliancy ever beneficial to society?
Some of the characters are living and working within their own circumstances, content knowing their needs are being met. Some characters are responding out of greed and self-interests. Some characters recognized they have been drawn into divine opportunities and respond in obedience. Some of the characters find they are drawn together by the seemingly impossible circumstances. Their response is the last thing they expected to happen.
The song 'God of this City' by Chris Tomlin is a great background song for this story. The chorus says, "greater things are yet to come, greater things are still to be done in this city." Doesn't that fill you with such hope? Behind this story is my hope that God is still the God of this country.
I hope you will relate to one or more of the ‘good’ characters. I hope that one or more of the characters will speak to you. For myself, I am one of the characters. But I also know that I am a major part of every ‘good’ character. I shudder to think that I am must be a part of the ‘bad’ characters as well.
I would like to remind you that this is a fictional story about fictional characters. I hated economics in college. All the references to economic facts and models are just my imagination. Still, recently I find myself terrified by day’s news.
I hope you enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it. More than anything, I hope you will have a response to the end. Lyndie 14 January, 2009
