I was attracted to this book because… I enjoy Patti Callahan’s story. As a reader, you find yourself experiencing the event and the emotions along with the characters.

This book was about… In 1838, the steamship Pulaski, carrying many prominent citizens of Savannah, sank in the night, after a boiler explosion. More than half of the 200 passengers on board died. Those who survived the immediate difficulties of the explosion and the ship sinking, spent days on the ocean.

Patti takes us through the survivor stories. We also see the impact this tragedy stills has on Savannah, through the split-time story of history professor, Everly Winthrop, curates the a collections of recently recovered artifacts from the steamship.

Things I liked about this book…This was an intriguing story of the long term effects of personal tragedies.

Why you should read this book… This story gives you a subtle look into the old south of privilege. It also celebrates life when people see each past physical limitations.
